Badger single stage snow blower any good?

I am looking at an upcoming auction that has a 6' Badger single stage snow blower, it has an auger but no impeller. Would it be of any use or am I better off sticking with a plow or looking for a 2 stage blower? We mostly get light fluffy snow but 2 or 3 feet at a time is not at all uncommon. Any advice will be much appreciated.

They work OK. Not the greatest when there is not much snow or too much snow either. For average snows they work pretty good. Take less hp to run than a 2 stage.

It"s my opinion that you would be much better off with a real 2 stage blower. I had a single stage blower and it would not really throw the snow away from the machine. as does a two stage blower. The real thing here is to have the horsepower to run the blower as wet snow will bog the thrower down quickly. Unless you push the snow out of the way the first time with a plow it will continue to build up. With the thrower that"s not a problem as a good thrower will put the snow 10/15 ft away

I got along with one for many years. if it goes cheap, buy it, then keep your plow around for the few types of snow that it doesn't do well in. it does well reblowing previously plowed snow. I spent many hours blowing back other peoples banks.

For 2 or 3 feet I would want a 2 stage. If it goes cheap 1-2 hundred dollars it would be alright. Unrelated, I see there is a JD 716A wagon in that sale. I am not looking to buy but if you can remember please note the selling price. Thanks.

Thank you all for the advice. NY 986, if I go to the auction I will write down the selling price, not sure if I will go. That wagon is in very rough condition if I recall correctly, they were having a yard sale there yesterday and I stopped in to look at the equipment. wasn't in the market for a self unloading wagon so I didn't check it out closely but walking by it was really beat-up looking. Holes in the floor, big weeds growing inside etc.

If you do not want to go then do not worry about it. If you do go then good luck on the snow blower.
