I have an 1840 Case Skidsteer I need to adjust the clutches so it stops when I let go of the handles. Where are the adjustments and how is it done? Never tried this before so any help is appreciated. Thanks

The 1840 has no clutches, it is a hydrostatic drive. Under the seat there are spring centering mechanisms that return the levers to center position. look at the spring mechanism while moving the lever and see if the spring has free play either way, if so adjust the nut on the rod till the spring eliminates any free play. If the unit still moves you may have to change the rod length to the drive pump. Look it over carefully before you do anything so you understand it before changing anything.

Another issue, if the unit has high hours check ALL the ball joints in the lever linkage for wear as it is near impossible to get the centering mechanism to work if there is extreme wear in the joints.

There is also a grease fitting on that hand-control linkage that has probably never seen grease. Pull the seat and take a look. Some of the linkage parts can be cross referenced to mcmaster-carr or similar. I matched up parts for the bars that fold down to release the brakes. But the Case pins will be hardened and better quality.

Yep did this very thing on mine few years ago while doing a 4 wheel bearing replacement..
FYI
the sprockets which run the wheels and are inside the sides of machine have holes in them that a 1 inch or so round rod is suppose to go into to stop creeping and lock front wheels. THis rod is connected to spring which moves with a cable from your lap bars. I doesnt lock when you lift the leg bars unless it happens to be right inline with the hole on the sprocket so it may still coast a few inches before clicking in and one side can lock without the other doing do.. I know when I try to line up and want the skidloader to stay put and not move I turn and move forward and backward until it finally finds the spot to lock where I need to be..Good luck its pretty easy and straight forward as said below just look it over and understand before adjusting

mEl, i have a 70xt and it does the same thing. How do you get to
the cable, is it under the seat or do you half to open the cab up.

thanks,

Mike
