Just recently, the local papers and The Farmers Advance have scarp wanted adds from scrap yards. price isn't that high. Whats going on? I have a lot of scrap that should go.

They want to buy low and sell high just like everyone else. The yards around here are stock piling for when the price goes up again. Once it's up, it's a race to empty the yard.

The price on scrap is down so fewer people are bringing in scrap so the volume at scrapyards is down so they advertise to get more scrap hopefully,
pretty much the way any business operates. And the yards make about the same profit no matter what the price is.

Not really so the ,the export market is a little weak but melting here in the states is on the increase.

Yup, when business is good there's no need to advertise. When it starts to fall off, you need to remind your customers that you're still there.

Prices are down somewhat and they probably expect them to raise in the near future. Also in our area were about scrapped out. There is just not that much stuff left anymore. Higher prices would however probably get some of the better stuff still out there.

I personally havn't paid attention to scrap prices historically, but had a guy tell me the other day that scrap prices are ussually always down this time of year, and then bounce back.

I believe it is the other way around. When oil goes up it affects the global economy. Scrap prices then go down due to lack of demand.

Unless you need the money I would hold selling it. I hope I am wrong, but looks like we are only two or three years away from major military involvement. If I can buy farm equipment right, and strip some salable parts. Let it pile up. It is like money in the bank. I do not have to contend with neighbors.
Local scrap yard calls me about 4 times a year. He says when scrap was around $250 the hedge rows were emptied.
You might want to watch the numbers on what Turkey is importings. Sometimes it is higher on a monthly basis than China.
