Making Second Cut Alfalfa here at Clinton Camp Farm

Started mowing here yeaserday. About two weeks later than should have, but the custom baling crew has been hindered by wet weather. The alfalfa is a bit past full bloom, but there is lots of it. They started baleing about noon today. The uncles mow, ted, and rake into windrows. The baleing crew makes the bales, gathers them and loads them on trucks, in a short and sweet operation. The truck carries 34 bales. They will cover about 200 acers in the next three days, Weather forcasters are predicting several days of good haying weather thru the middle of next week.

Neighbors on both sides of me just finished up their 3rd cutting of alfalfa. 3 Ton to the acre. Looks like they will be getting a 4th cutting. Hopefully I'll get mine planted this fall.

These are 100 to 110 lb bales. We sell a lot of small bales here, lots of horse people.
Don't see any round bale in this part of the country, just the small bales and the large squares 4x4x8
bales. A lot of people call the large bale 1 ton bales, but friend of mine that bales the large bales says he has never had one over 1860 lbs.

Looks good, but who picks up those 110 lb. babies? When I was a kid our neighbor custom baled. He always made 100 lb. bales. took one of us on each end to get them on the wagon. He finally saw the light, and took the wedges out of the bale chamber.
 
Those bales don't look much longer than 40 inches and 14x18 sides If they weigh 75 pounds they are at 22 -24 % moisture and way to wet to bale.
Do you test them for moisture?
 
Gordo, come on west and I'll put ya out there bucking these bales,. then ya tell me they are not 100 to 110 lbs.. we even have 150 lb bales in this area..
