OT- agri-business insurance

Does anybody have an insurance company that returns calls anymore? Received an invoice for almost $600 to cover a 20+5 gooseneck deckover trailer. It is due 4 days from now. Have called 3 times (2 to agent and 1 time to the insurance company's corporate office) to find out why so high and nothing back yet. Same scenario over and over with this company. Time for a change. This is the company that has the cat-woman that swings through a window and does flip flops off the walls and counter tops just to change out a simple toaster - apparently had too many skittles and mountain dew as a kid? Luckily, I haven't had to make a claim on my toaster . . . my wife would wonder how female heel marks got all over the walls!

Maybe the big premium goes toward the fancy advertising. If my .02 is worth anything, it seems like the small companies that spend a lot of money on fancy advertising don't have enough left over in the piggy bank to be able to adequately service their customers. They might be capitalized well enough to meet the minimum standards required to cover loss payouts but they don't have enough money to pay a big enough staff to give good customer service. They remind me of the slick hawkers at the state fair.

If you go with an old line company your premiums might or might not be cheaper but you will have fewer problems getting service. I'm not saying NO problems, just fewer problems. Jim

May be hoping you have to have the ins. and they won't answer in time for to do anything but pay it,then if you find something better, & cancel.
they will keep part of what you paid. BTDT.
I'm in Georgia, local guy had a 18-wheeler in Boston when he got a notice of a preminum of WAY more than he'd been told it would be, and it was due in like 2 days, he payed it to keep truck moving.

Can't speak directly for agri-business insurance but we use an independent insurance agency for home and cars. I have an assigned rep at the agency who will return my calls or emails within an hour, if not sooner. She shops for the best policies at renewal time. In fact, we just paid our homeowner's renewal premium when she emailed that she had been checking on it and could save us $700 by switching carriers. Even though we paid the premium already, she took care of cancelling the old policy, handling the full refund and writing the new one. Wife was in a car accident lately and the other insurance company was hounding us to file a claim (no damage to our car). Our rep said "don't file a claim", called the other insurance guy, handled it all and it didn't cost us a nickel and no claim was filed against our policy.

I chuckle at all the advertising from the big companies about saving money and customer service. I don't need them, I've got Pat!

Your company is not a small company (one of the top five in the country) and not new to the market (been around since the 1920s). Someone should have gotten back to you by now, although they probably couldn't tell you why the price was what it is. The rates are filed by the company and approved by the state so if there is an issue with price you really need to talk to the state department of insurance.

You have a good agency (who legally represents the company, not you). Your company might be a very large one, or not.

We use an independent insurance agency; they are very good and often tell the insurance company what to do - and what is legal in this state and what is not legal.

Sometimes insurance companies will raise the rates just because they think they can get away with it.

When ag equipment manufacturers started getting notice of huge increase in liability premiums, we worked through the manufacturer's association and were able to prove that none of the manufacturers had a claim against their company in the last 20 years, we went after the insurance companies to prove their data they used to increase rates.

The insuance companies response was: "Forget the rate increase notices; it is not going to happen." I doubt that they ever had any data to support a rate increase; they just thought that they could get away with it and the industry wouldn't fight back.

My auto insurance (by another company) covers the gooseneck liability when it is attached to my truck, which I knew. What I want on my farm insurance is theft, tornado, missile attacks by Putin, etc. when the trailer sits in the barn lot not being used. I'm already covered by this company for my land, house, barns, tractors, implements, 2 other trailers and all my aquaculture equipment.

Agent did call back at noon today and said that $75.00 was the annual cost for the gooseneck and the additional $500 was the minimum charge insurance companies charge for farm/commercial premiums and was imposed & regulated by the state of Illinois (?). Since I'm already a policy holder I don't understand the $500 and realistically, the $75. I could see $25 or so . . . . .

I've had mutual insurance through Kentucky Farm Bureau for years, sometimes their rates are higher than others sometimes not. To me, knowing I have a full time agent who lives and works this county, and a dedicated to county adjuster who is physically in the local office 2 days each week makes it worthwhile. Best of all, any profits, as a mutual company, comes back to the counties or policy holders.

Missile attack by Putin? Most insurance companies exclude acts of war. I've been with USAA for 27 years, been happy most of the time. Service is good but they shave claims just like any other insurance company and don't stand behind their Certified Replacement Auto Parts (C.R.A.P.). If you were a military member give them a call and see what they can do for you. Only thing I notice is their general agency doesn't write all the lines it used to.
