Just like the song says "I'll see you again" and I can now. Surgeon took the last caaract off the right eye and I can tell you for sure, the mans a genius. He gave me back 30 yrs+. I'm grateful there is guys around that can do that,or else it would be Ray Charles time for me shortly,as I was going blind by degrees daily.

The folks here gave me a lot of encouragement in telling me how wonderful it would be to see again, and that was absolutely true, thanks to them. All thats left now is Dr visits and eye drops if you folks that have cataracts and are afraid of the procedure (surgery) take a shot at it and if you are lucky enough to find a surgeon as great as I did, I can only tell you GET IT DONE. Again my Thanks to the folks on here who gave me encouragement,it's something I'll always remember during my waking hours.
Warmest regards,
LOU

Good for you. I had mine done four years ago. In a good light I don't need glasses to read the newspaper for the first time in many many moons. I have a few pair of reading glasses scattered around for the times I need a little help. TDF

My dad is a diabetic and he has had them removed, twice. He has many complications from his condition but that surgeon gave him his eye sight back and he was a new man after he had them removed.

My dad had congenital cataracts. His whole life he had bad vision and everything he seen was dull and hazy. In his late forties, he had them removed one at a time, maybe a month apart.

When they took the patch off his eye for the first time, he had like a sensory overload. He wasn"t color blind, but because the cataract made everything cloudy, he had never seen bright colors, just dull shades.

It took my mom several hours to bring him the 30 miles home. They had to go through every car dealership lot just so he could look at all the different color schemes on cars and all the details that he had never seen before.

When he came back to the shop, the first thing he said is "I had no idea my red toolbox was sooo red" BW

Good deal! I'm going to read this to my mom. She's 87, needs cataract surgery but she's afraid to do it at her age. Doesn't trust doctors!

Really glad it went well for you, Lou.

My dad had it done - it was a huge benefit.

MIL is getting her first eye done at the end of this month.

Tell her for me how worried a person can be.
I'm 79 years old with diabetes suffering from neuropathy, had my last nine teeth pulled and dentures made, having problems with the dentures but will get them worked out. Tell her I was scared to death about surgery at my age and health issues would cause me not to wake up. I met with the surgeon prior to any surgery talked quite awhile and explained my fears.

I found the surgeon to be understanding and visited all options available to me.Non anethesia was what I chose and he agreed because I could have choked on phlem (as I also have asthma,COPD) the cataract on the left eye was old and extremely hard, procedure took about 1/2 hr to do not counting the physical preop and paper work. The paper work took the most time.
They will give her a thorough work up and she should find them very kind and considerate. Knowing what I know now I would have had it done years ago. The reason I had it done was from people on this forum gave me great advice and support. My son has been invaluable to me thru every issue I've been plagued with,as I am sure you will be for your Mom. Your mother should know hat she has a great opportunity to revisit youthful experiences and would be able to contribute to the family. Going blind only creates additional hardship not only to herself but to other members of the family.THAT WAS MY MAIN INSPIRATION. As long as I'm alive I still have obligations to my family to be able to help in what limited fashions I can, being able to see is extremely important to the contributions I can make. Now that I have eyesight again. It will be so for your mother. I just couldn't take going blind as I'm the kind of individual who relishes seeing beauty the Good Lord has created.
Tell her whatever she decides must be because her desire and interest will be in helping the family and herself. The saying "God helps those who helps themselves" in her case having her eyesight restored will be proof of the pudding. I wish her sucess and she will be in my prayers. My true belief is women are much stronger than men and hold more compassion than any man I've known and I've known some strong men. I'm sure she will be fine and if she goes for the interview have her discuss with the surgeon her fears and considerations.Bless her heart, with warmest regards,
LOU
