My wife and I are planning on attending the Keystone Inv Livestock Expo the first of Oct in Harrisburg, Pa. Although we wont have a lot of time, what are some points of interest nearby. I have heard Hershey is interesting, and I hope to drive through Lancaster County if its not far away. Anything else that is a must see from you guys? Thanks for any pointers - Bob

Gettysburg is an hour away. We are local so kind of take it for granted sometimes, but I really think everyone should take a "pilgrimage" there once or twice in their lives. Plan on at least an afternoon, but could take a week if you are into the history.

We were going to go see the Eisenhower farms, and it was difficult for us to figure out, but apparently it is just a part of the Gettysburg Battlefield site. Not clearly marked. We did not go, apparently it takes a long time, and I understand price is $7 or $8 per person each. Kids same price. We wanted to, but didn't go.

Less than an hour on the east side of Lancaster at Strasburg is the Strasburg RR and the Pennsylvania Rail Museum. Both are very interesting for the kids and adults. The railroad ride is through the heart of some of the prettiest country in Lancaster county, and the museum is one of the best in the world......

Wenger's of Meyerstown.

They have a Massey in the showroom, model 35 I think. It is all original down to the oil in the engine, has not rust or corrosion, just patina. It has 7/10ths of an hour on it from new. It still has the rubber molding nibs on the tires. It's something to see, in itself. Aside from that, Wenger's has isles of T shirts and hats and signs and toys that are all the old tractor brands. IT's a good place to stop, especially if you need a hard to find tractor part.

Some of their used equipment for sale is in beautiful shape for the age... low to no rust, lots of original paint.

Just taking a driving trip through the backroads is a destination itself, also. The old stone barns, the perfectly groomed fields, the estate like farm yards, and the cleanliness of the whole area is not something I am used to. It blows my mind every time.

You can also check out the Carlisle fairgrounds. Oct 1-5 is the fall Carlisle swap meet and car show. 70 acres of classic cars and parts. Another great place for a gearhead!

Hope this helps and I hope you enjoy your trip.

Hershey is a great town to visit. Lots of history and they have a couple museums. I suggest going there. Also lots of other attractions around Hershey, Lancaster and Harrisburg. Enjoy the trip and have a milkshake at the show. They're amazing.
