Ford 4000 SU Sold

Just got back from an auction where they had a 74 Ford 4000 with ROP, PS, hydraulics, live PTO, etc. One guy thought it would go for 6,000.00 another 4-5,000. Opened at 5,000 and had about three or four bids to 7250. I was interested but never even got a chance to bid before it was out of my range. Keep looking, I guess.

Don't feel bad! You don't want a gasoline tractor anyway! Keep your eyes open for a diesel!

Had gas 4000 tractors and would not have had them if had been a diesel. The one the numbers said diesel but it was gas.

Grew up on a 4000SU diesel. That was the best tractor we have ever owned as far as durability. It was an everyday chore tractor and for about 20 years all I remember doing to it was putting a fan belt on it, maybe a battery and changing the oil. Not sure how the gas ones were though. That does seem like a lot of money for that tractor. Good luck in your search.

Nice tractor.
It doesn't surprise me to see one go that high. They are a great, small size with plenty of grunt.
When I was selling my standard 4000 last summer I had a couple of guys call me and ask where they could find one like mine in a gasser. I tried to give them a pep talk about diesels but no, they wanted a gas tractor.
So gassers are still popular.

Coincidentally, here's a Ford 4000 diesel that appears in last Saturday's craigslist from battle creek, Michigan. Don't know where you are located. The listing asks for $4450.

British built and a model 4100 that is a high utility and they carried 38" rear wheels Steel grill came in 65 and plastic came in 68. Had both a 65 & 68 in gas. Very good tractors.
