1010 Tractor Collectibility

I"ve heard many say in the past that the 1010 is not a collectible tractor. It"s been said "It was not that great of a tractor"...

FAST FORWARD TO 2014... The 1010 is highly collectible and I would encourage an in depth conversation on the matter. I have several 1010 Tractors and they are wonderful machines that operate very similar to the 430 they replaced. I have several 430"s as well. Anything that was made from the Dubuque factory is collectible no matter what anyone tells you. Things to consider are production numbers, options the tractor is equipped with as well as condition. What are your thoughts??

The JD 1010 tractors where not bad but they where really just a 420/430 with a 4 cy motor in them. They are getting collectable because guys are wanting a complete set of new generation tractors. Also you can easily haul them behind a half ton pickup.

The JD 2010 is the WORSE tractor JD ever built. The are a complete night mare to run/work on.

The 430 and 1010 have very little in common.Other than the rockshaft,on some the gearshift lever and the final drives, not much will interchange.

I like to say that I work at a school district that still have a 1010 JD still at hard at work. They are okay tractors for a school district.

Not true Mike.ind. The 430's and the 1010's shared many parts. I have several side by side in my collection. The final drives are the same like you stated, as well as the front axles, several power steering components, rock shafts, hydraulic units, brake pedals, fenders, and several odds and ends. If you own an earlier 1010 there are more interchangeable parts as Deere was using up the left over parts from the 430 series then slowly began production of the newer 1010 parts. I have several all original 1010's to prove this.

I have heard that about a 2010. However, I would still like to one day add one to my collection. I'm one that has to see it to believe it. I'm a Master Certified Auto Tech, so I can certainly tell you if it's hard to work on or not...LOL! One day we'll see... LOL!

1010, NO problem!

Even it's red-haired step-brother, the 2010, is not a whole lot worse that an Oilallover or and Alice Chompers of the same era, if the facts be known/we are honest about it!

A neighbor/friend of mine has a (GASP) early 2010 diesel with lots of hours on it, and it soldiers on with basic maintenance.

Defying all odds, I guess?

The bottom line is MAINTENANCE and not abusing it... keep the radiator fins CLEAN (so it NEVER overheats), change the coolant every couple of years, and the oil as the manual specifies and don"t ABUSE it, and it will probably outlive you!

I had a 2010. Neat tractor but I never did get any work out of it. There was always something with it. I traded it off for a 65 Massey. I'm much happier with the Massey.

I was talking about the basic tractor, not the add on small stuff. The engine, tranny, rear end are nothing like a 430.The PS is all together different also. The 1010 has a tranny mount pump and a different control valve and front post.the early 1010's had round pipe axle the 430's did not use.Later had the swept back axle. Some of the fenders would interchange, but not all.On the 1010RS only the right fender would work on the 430.The right one was shorter on the 1010 RS.

I think if you like it and it sparks your interest,it's collectable. I've got a British built Oliver 500. Who would have thought they'd be collectable, but there weren't many in the first place, gassers especially, which mine is,and the majority have already gone to the crusher. So I'm almost giddy to have this one. If the 1010 turns your crank like this one does for me,buy up all you can find in every variation.

It seems to me that not being a very good tractor results in less of them being around later , thus making them more collectable. After all isn't that what makes all the old JD tractors worth more now than the other colors .

There has been a 1010 (looks like nice paint) for sale for quite a while now on North Territorial Rd. about 15-20 miles west of US23. Maybe its too high priced? It sure looks nice.

love the 1010's ,have 2 ,1010 u diesel ,runs great ,1010 gas serial # 1010 GO 28726, does anyone know anything about the "Grove and orchard", all the books I have read on the 1010 only talk about the orchard model
