hey guys,i have a 56 johne deere 420 that was a hand me down from my dad and was having issues with rear plow set up is going up very slow. Wondering where the drain and fill plugs are on it and what type of fluid to use???

on my 430 the drain for the touch o matic is on the back of the housing. filled by removing breather cap under the seat. There is a check petcock on the front of the housing. Mine is a 430 U so if you have a different model it may be different.

Looks like somebody lost the operator's manual. The good news is the nice folks at 1-800-522-7448 have the operator's and service manuals on CD and hard copy.
The parts manual is online at the JD site.

Take a look at the diagram below.

The 1/4in. pipe plug (Key 42) on the bottom left of the rockshaft is the oil drain plug.

Take a look at the photo below of the oil drain plug.

Take a look at the photo below of the Filler Cap that is located under the seat cushion.

According to the Operator's Manual, "[b:654c4848f0][i:654c4848f0]If additional oil is needed, add SAE 10 W oil at filler opening until it runs out of oil level cock. (Oil capacity is approximately 5-1/2 U.S. quarts.)[/i:654c4848f0][/b:654c4848f0]

Take a look at the photo below of the oil level test cock.

Hope this helps.
