To all the great tractor aficionados in this discussion,

1971 Ford 4000

1. How much gear oil goes in the rear differential and what type should be used?
2. Can I use the same gear oil for the transmission?
3. Best place to buy quality inexpensive ford parts?

I don't know the exact amount but about 7 gallons in the rear end and 3 gals in the tranny. Buy two 5 gallon pails if you are changing all fluids.
Buy UTF or trans/hydraulic oil meeting Ford 134D specs. Look for that # on the label. Same oil in both boxes and your PS system. It is thinner than you'd expect it to be (like about 40 wt) so heads up.
Quality, inexpensive parts? That's kind of mutually exclusive you know.
This site sells a lot of good parts and I like to support our hosts. Depends on what you need too.
Some things are only available at the dealer.
In general, there is very good parts support - both new and used - for that tractor.
When you change the coolant, if you have a diesel don't forget to add a bottle of conditioner.
There is a very good Ford board here at YT.

I have found a number of places to purchase parts by searching on fleabay. That is how many vendors advertise and there are many out there offering identical parts for half the money of CNH.
