Hauling Tractors

I haul tractors on a car hauler to tractor shows. How do you set the brake controller for not too much brake and not too little.

Should be an adjustment dial on your controller. One way turns up the trailer brakes, other way backs them off. Just have to try it a couple of times until you achieve the stopping force you desire. Just don't forget to back them off when empty or you will skid your trailer tires when you apply your truck brakes.

When I was hauling tractors and equipment I started testing and adjusting as soon as I was underway loaded or empty. No nominal do all setting.

You have to keep adjusting it,for highway or in town use. That's the trouble with them.A couple people I know bought the electric over hydraulic brake trailers and love them. The brakes work like the truck brakes and apply harder as the brake pedal is pushed.

Tekonsha prodigy 3 is what I just put in my truck and love it. I only pick the boost level and it does the rest. I can go from a 36' fifth wheel to a 30' gooseneck to a 16' car trailer. So it was either peel your face off the windshield or OH SHIP WERE NOT GOING TO STOP.. It was expensive but worth it to me.

That's why mine has the digital read-out. I know about where to set it for empty-light-heavy loads.

The 2 controllers that were truly proportional (matched the truck's brakes) are no longer made.
