New Holland baler update

Posted a while back on tying problem on an old NH super 68 baler. Took the twine fingers off and they had a groove wore in them, the right one worse than the left and that is the side that would mistie. Ground out and polished them up. I had an article I cut out of a farm magazine years ago about tying problems, and it showed my exact problem, string tore off or almost off behind the knot and said was too little clearance between the bill hook and the knife arm, compared it to the good side and I could see the difference, so did some bending on that arm till I was happy with the way it looked. On Tuesday I was baling with the other baler and my Son said should I bring er out and give er a try, I said sure we have a little time to mess with it, she popped out 250 nice tight bales and never missed a one right from the empty chamber and even changed both twine balls. thanks for your comments and encouragement, I was about ready to back it in the woods and pull the pin.

Thanks for posting. I have a 530 Ford baler that does the same thing. Is it possible to get a copy of the article you mentioned?

LOL....I think I might agree with you there, but for the $50 I paid for it... It works "ok" lol

I have no way of coping and posting, I don't know much about computers and have no patience to learn. But here's the article. Problem, twine is frayed or broken 1 inch back of knot, Solution, there is insufficient clearance between the back of the billhook and the inside face of the knife arm, bend the knife arm so the billhook revolves freely, the stripper arm must touch the billhook. Tip those knotters up and compare the good one to the side that miss ties, I had almost no clearance on the one side. Had a neighbor that used a Ford baler, they had a good size Dairy and that baler made hundreds of thousands of bales, it was a good baler, I'm sure it had the exact same knotter as a NH.
