1256 international tractor trouble

I can't steer my tractor and I don't have any brakes. I was using it when this happened. It came back once then it happened again. No steering and no brakes.

Start with checking your hydraulic oil level. Change the hydraulic filter if the oil level is correct.

Bad News. Clutch time. You dont have PTO or hydralics either,do you?. The spline in the pressure plate and the PTO drive gear/shaft has become worn and stripped out. That shaft is what runs most 'funtions',ie: MCV pump(steering, brakes,TA,transmission lube)hitch pump(3point and remotes),and PTO.Really it is not a big deal. Must split it and renew these parts. While you are in there,do a complete/proper 'clutch job'.Very common problem on IH tractors.

On the right side of the transmission under the brake pedals. It is inside a teardrop shaped plate/houseing. NAPA # 1253.As was stated change the hydralic filter is the first thing to do when hydralic 'problems' first appear.Adding 5gallons of hydralic oil 'overfull' is also a common practice.A plugged hydralic filter can cause your problem.Especially since you have never changed it.It should be changed yearly, more often if nessesary. You REALLY need an Owners manual.

That filter serves BOTH MCV(power steering)pump and hitch pump. When plugged/restricted the MCV gets starved. If this happened gradually,It could be the filter. If it happened all at once, then my bet is on the clutch.Btw.Did you hear a groul/chattering/gear stripping sound at time or 'failure'?
