Gas valve leaks where it screws into the tank?

Where the gas valve/sediment bowl assembly screws into the bottom of the tank on my Allis Chalmers WD, it leaks (a slow leak, but a leak none the less). So what are my good options for sealing this connection up when I put the gas valve back in?

Also, the stopcock valve on my sediment bowl started to leak as well recently (and the freaking thing is only a few years old), so I bought some graphite packing material (should be here in a day or two) to repack it myself. Anyone else have luck with this?

Permatex around the neck of the bowl assembly. The gas delivery guy told me to use that in petroleum applications not pipe dope.

BEST stuff is "Gasoila".

I'm with you - Permatex High Tack aviation sealant. I started using it years ago putting together VW engines. Everything gets smeared with it.

(quoted from post at 06:28:16 07/21/14) First thing is replace the entire fuel bowl assembly. It is soft
pot metal and the threads are easily damaged. Start fresh.

At this rate I'd have to buy a new one every 5 years; the old one lasted for over 30. :(

Thanks guys. Got my graphite packing for the valve stem, and got some teflon tape for the gas valve itself. Will try it out this weekend.

If this doesn't work, I'll go back for the sealant type stuff. :D
