#30 kicker on my JD 336 Baler

My kicker is acting up. I was going along fine when I first started using it this summer, and then it started acting up. Basically the bale of hay goes over the trip pedal and the tractor labors big time and the bale falls on the ground. I made every adjustment possible and tried again. The first bale kicked and then I had the same problem. All along throughout my troubles I can push the hand trip lever and it kicks fine, with or without a bale (if the bale is in the right spot).
I just went out there and tripped it by hand about 5 times, worked great every time. I threw a bale in there and pulled it across the trip pedal with a rope and it tossed the bale just fine.

I cannot figure out why it gives me trouble out in the field. It's all greased, maintained, hydraulic level where it is supposed to be.

Anybody have an idea what my problem is?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Take detent cap off of valve (two screws) and clean the internal parts and regrease. Lube the spool that goes into the valve, on the outside. Lube the roller for the trip latch, may have to change the roller if worn with flats. Adjust trip a little higher for the bale.

right, the valve is sticking. A quick fix is to tie a piece of twine to the latch pivot arm and up to the trip arm. Otherwise, the internal spring stretches.
