Results of burn pile

Following the ice storm early this year my parents had a bunch of downed trees some of which were piled in the middle of their garden spot and burnt. Now you can see where the burn pile was as the plants in that circle are doing much better than those outside of it.

I guess ashes are good for gardens after all. Any of you had this experience?

Probally not too many weeds in that area either. It should have been hot enough to burn the seeds in the ground at the time.

Wood mulch is acidic, ashes are basic, acts like lime, soil could have been too acidic.

My grandpa used to raise tobacko and he always would sow the seed where he had set up a brush burn pile so no weeds. 45-50 years ago.
