OT Saturdays full moon!

We live in a valley, in Omaha. Have to drive to see the full sun set and moon rise. Saturday evening it looked clear enough, so headed towards Fort Calhoun Nebraska towards night fall. The moon was behind a few clouds, so the sun set was the first subject.

The Missouri River had flooded a couple of weeks prior, so there was a lot of water still in places not normally found. The birds thought it was great!

The moon eventually came out in all its glory! I drove awhile till I found a tree I could get artistic with it. My wife likes this one the best!

All fantastic!

Love the bird (heron?) standing in the water and
the sun's orange glow on the water.

Moon shot is over the top!!!

Tripod?
What kind of camera???
How many times zoomed?
Special lens?
What are your secrets to capturing the moon that
way?

I use a Canon SX 50 HS. It is a point and shoot, no switching of lenses! This was all hand held-probably had it zoomed in at 50Xs. I can go up to 200 times, but after 50 times it is digital and VERY hard to get a crisp shot-a monopod helps some. I can get decent shots at up to 75Xs! I turned it off of 'auto' and played with the settings. I went to 80-100 ISO (old film speed reference) and then played with the shutter speed until the moon looked close in the viewfinder as to what we were seeing live! After getting the settings close, I remembered a tree that I thought would be a good one to 'play' with and thought it looked cool this way-kinda like the leaves are tickling the moon!

Those are some fantastic shots! The sunset is gorgeous, and the moon, well, what can I say? I have always liked to play around with objects such as trees, weeds, etc. for added interest, but I can't seem to get my camera to see what my mind sees. Save those two for the calendar that someone is going to print some day.

Nice pics.

We were sitting outside at some friends sat nite and noticed the full moon was very large and very red... so grabbed my iphone and did a little quick research... turns out it was actually a 'Super Moon".... thats when the full moon coincides with the moons closest point of orbit around the earth... and here in Alberta right now we have light smoke from forest fires in BC... which made it appear dark red... but it was still quite clear and bright.....

So you picked a great nite for a moon pic, Good Job!
