Penfield Show over today

Sat was a WET WET day in our area. Left home around 7:30 heading to Penfield. Looked like we might have had 2-2.5" of rain. Had to run the wipers regular speed and started seeing half full ditches at Weedman and by the time I got to 136 the water was running fast and deeper. That way all the way to Dewey and then slowed the wipers down. Turn off 136 to the show, a beans field pond had no water in it. I thoght maybe .2-.3" but it was muddy and raining more as time went on. I had to go to St Joseph at 10. Someone said Savoy had 4". I met my wife there from her coming on 74 in places only 45 MPH. Went back to Penfield and checked with my boss as what to do. Undecided, so tried to find someone. Came back by the gate and the president was selling tickets. So I ate real fast and went to replace him at the gate. Sat is busy because of tractor pulls and there was 2 of us all the time and some times 3. Lots of people that had to park around town and a few dry places in the regular parking. Not too many getting stuck. By 5 pm we got the last semi tractor haulers back to the track with staying on the roads. And at 5:30 things got started with fireworks to be later. Headed for home at 8. Pretty large crowd for a half day.

The Big thing was a guy from Mahomet said he had 7.5" of rain. Some of 150 was closed. Going home west of 47 on 136 water was on the road and a east bound van had run off the north side of the road road into about 2-3' of water. At this time I was running in 3-4" but when I got 200' to this van my sensors went off. I was into deeper water with a current and thought the van was floating but I think now the front wheels were splashing more water. I could not see the yellow line because of the depth and darkness so I backed up about 500' and turned around where I could see. Two little cars then came through and I waited at the intersection for them. They were small cars and made it, kids. Coming over this am I saw a little red car that straddled on high line guy wires nose down. Just like you had picked it up and sat it there. But it had hydroplaned, went into a shallow ditch, hit a stop sign, missed a telephone pedestal, and then ended on the guy wires, nose down. Everybody going by was looking to see what had happened. We ended up with 3.5-4" around Farmer City.

I came up Friday night and stayed at a campground 3 mi away. Got up at 5:30 so we could get in real early. It started raining around 7. Finally at 9:30 we were going no matter what. We got dads UTV unloaded and got totally soaked in about 30 seconds. By 11;00 am we were walking the outdoor displays. Parking lot was a mess when we left after the pull. Had a good time for 3rd year in a row. Got home to deep Southern Illinois and had 0 rain. Just started faining here now.

Frank. I live SW of Mahomet, about 5" here. Chris D. told me he got 7". Water where I"ve never seen it before. The Sangamon hadn"t crested yet this evening. I was at Penfield Fri and Sat, pulled both nights. After a bunch of work, the Sat night track was great. Pulled two tractors, lots of fun, but I did get stuck in the parking lot about 10pm trying to get the tractors home. Your VP? from Danville pulled me out. Overall, a really good show, and your staff did a fantastic job once again.

I live in Farmer City, IL. I am a member of I+I and work the gate at Penfield in the pm and pull a people mover at Rantoul with my 730 standard.
