Drilled a new well and had a lot of clay in water sample. Been running water 24/7 for 3 days with the size of your small finger and has a cloudy look. What is the fair amount of time for water to clear?

It could be a little while. Even when it looks clear, it is not. A week or two--it is to be expected. Things will settle down. Some people eat clay. There ya go.

Sometimes you need to stop running the water. Things will then settle out. The fresh flow of water in keeps everything stirred up at the end of the drilling.

Also I wonder if your pump is too deep in the well. Around here they usually set the pump 10-15 feet up the casing from the end. That allows the bottom to act like a sediment bowl. The wells around here are usually in the 200 foot range. usually in pretty hard limestone still.

Fair amount of time to clear up is, When they clear up, No set time. Some never do. Slower you pump the better, Others pump a hr, Shut off a hr. pump a hr Shut off a hr. over and over. Clay's a b itch.

What kind of filter do you use to filter clay? I use a sediment filter after the air tank.
