help identifying my "new" plow?

Hi, a friend of mine gave me this old plow that has been sitting in his woods for a long time. It needs some parts, could you guys tell me what model it is? It seems to have an IH decal on it.

Is it worth saving? Should I totally disassemble it?

Thanks,

Troy, in Nova Scotia

Betting plow is of Ferguson descent, looks to be
in great shape. Those big cast points are expensive
if they break. Plow is definitely worth saving. What
parts does it need ? Rear two coulters are missing
the joiner attachments but not a big deal. Front
coulter looks like a John Deere. FYI, bolt spacing
on beam the frog attaches to are all the same so
another brand can be bolted on.

It is a Massey Ferguson plow. I am not sure of the exact model. It is close to a MF 43 plow, like the one in the picture. The MF 43 plow is newer than the one you have but the frame is close to the same.

IH plows of that vintage would have been two point hitch.

The rear bottom trip looks like IH to me. I don't remember any MF plow having the vertical bolts and straps along the frame top like that on the plows sold years ago at the MF dealer I worked for. I never saw a MF or Ferguson plow without the steel dished wheel, unless some one removed it if it ever had one.

Yep,it's IH.It has the old PlowChief bottoms. Those bottoms could be easily swapped to the newer and (much)better Super Chief bottoms. And spring trip beams/standards.It would be from the late '50s/early '60s vintage. Most were Fast hitch. But could be had as a three point as well.

Hi, that is a C-36, 3 furrow plow. We had a couple
of them, first one was with ACE bottoms but points
became too expensive. Dad traded it for one with
Super Chief bottoms. They were available in 3pt or
fast hitch. Neighbour had a C-26 which was the 2
furrow version. IIRC Dad bought the first one in
early 1960s.

Thanks for the leads, I'm still having trouble finding bottoms like mine. All the Plow Chief bottoms seem to have 3 or 4 parts, but mine only have two. I'm starting to think this may be a Frankenplow...

I'd like to get two new moldboards, and new points. Are these types still available? Should I try to change over to the 4 part bottoms?

Thanks,

Troy

Hi, those are the ACE points only made in Canada.
If the late Hugh MacKay was still with us he would
give us the history of the ACE plow bottoms. The
last while we had the ACE bottoms, Dad used to buy
the points at the local CO-OP. There were two
versions the cast iron and the Ductalloy which was
softer and did not break when hitting rocks. The
only problem they wore out rapidly, maybe 20 acres
to a set of points.

In 1948 Otaco became the first Canadian company to
receive a license from International Nickel to
produce a new metal – a cast iron material with
the properties of steel known as Ductalloy Iron.
Otaco started producing Ductalloy castings for
other companies as well as for its own products
including the Gold Tip Plow Share.
