I have a john deere GP.It had no compression. I did the valves and put in new rings. It still has very little compression.what should I do

Is it timed right (cam to crank)? Being off would lower your compression. I'm also with B&D. What should the tractor have and what does it have?

U could put a bit of oil down the spark plug holes and then re-test and see if the compression goes up, would tell u if the rings are were its loosing compression.

Just an odd thought which Im sure you probably know already but didn't some of the older JDs have a petcock to turn to lower compression for starting, any problems with those not working properly?

Could a valve be sticking open, or could a valve be adjusted so tight that it doesn't fully close? A "leak down" test would tell you if/where the compression is leaking.

What compression are they supposed to have, between 4:1 and 6:1?

If you put new rings in an old egg shaped bore, they will leak & have no compression. So how good is the bore?

I'm blue not green but I thought that it was well known that two cyl. Deere's bores got egg shaped, and that reringing was rarely done.
