3 good tires, weights and manuals ought to be worth asking price. Good looking machine to let it go to scrapper.

The price is low enough if it is close to haul.

I would be scared of the folks being dishonest, when they put
up a pic of a restored beautiful tractor and are actually selling
a three wheeled non running clunker. While they tell it like it is,
they are obviously trying to over represent it with that pic.....
Wonder what other selling tricks they are using....

I'm not up on the newer Oliver's, but about that time they had
some really odd engines didnt they, that have no parts
available? I would look into that for sure.

With overheating and not running, it will basically need an
engine transplant. If it were a simple problem that would fix it
themselves. So, price out an engine and availability to get a
real cost of where you will be.

What is the rest of the tractor going to be like, tranny, clutch,
hydraulics? With it not running, how much else will you need to
stick into it? If it were repairable the current owners likely
would do so, hold that close to home as you look it over, don't
look at their shiny pretty picture and think of what it could be,
look at what is actually there and what all you will need to do
to make it working, I suspect the engine is the tip of the
iceberg?

But, I've blown $500 on things with less potential for return! :)

Jennifer, hope RR Lund chimes in here as he is up on the Fiat built Olivers. Some were great and some were not so good. If you look up on the Oliver site his posts, Randy has posted a list of the good ones and the bad ones.
I would definatly post this on the Oliver board before buying to get that information.

It is a Fiat 415 in Oliver's colors basically. Oliver did a lot of 'that sort of thing' before the name disappeared altogether, They even imported some green and white painted David Browns from The UK for a while.

Have you actually seen the tractor they are
selling? If it is in decent shape, and if parts
are available, it may be very well worth your
while, that size of tractor would be very handy to
have. I personally prefer diesel's to gas
tractors. When I was a kid the neighbor had a gas
tractor in the field running it when the gas line
broke and it went up almost like a bomb. He was
lucky as he jumped off the back and got away with
only a broken leg, the tractor was completely
toast. Scared me enough to decide then I was not
wanting any gas tractors.

The link to Import Tractor Parts below used to have a synopsis of the desirability of the various import tractors written by Danny Bowes, the proprietor, but I can't find a link to it now. Hopefully rrlund will come on, because he usually posts a link to it when the subject comes up.

Either the gas or diesel 1250 was a total disaster, because of an off-breed engine with no parts availability. But I'm thinking that was the gas, and the diesel is basically OK. And I checked Import Tractor Parts, and they seem to have lots of parts for the 1250 diesel. They show a rebuild kit for the diesel, and I'd check the price on that before doing anything else.

That being said, its awful easy to get more into a tractor than its worth, especially a "pig in a poke" that isn't running. And diesel engine rebuilding is not a project for the beginner.

thanks everyone and i agree, im waiting for rrlund to chime in. i talked to the guy on the phone and he seem to be trying be as honest as he can, he said it came with the property he bought 6 years ago, he put marvel oil or something like that and got it to spin but it won't start and it is obvious that it got overheated and he don't know if something got bent or not when it overheated. the tire just needs a new tube, the block is not cracked or damaged by looking at it. we'll see what our expert has to say, last i heard the tire guy is bringing him out a new tire today (not fun)

When you go look at it, according to the import
tractos link, if it is a 3 cylinder, it may well be
worth a chance, if it is a 4 cylinder, run!!!

Howdy Paul & Shade, I'm doing the same thing now with a
JD LA i'm selling on C/L.
I had to enclose apicture of a LA that isnot the actual picture as some people DON'T know the difference between a A & LA. Hope this helps explain it.
Cheers, JoeB

It looks a lot like this one that I have. I gave 700
only because the tires were good. It runs well and
I've raked hay with it.
