oldest Case ag tractor offered with a 3.9 or 5.9 cummins

The first tractors I remember seeing where the 7000 series CIH tractors, IE 7110, 7120. The skid steers had them earlier I think. I know of the 3.9 in the 1840 skid steers. They came out in 1989-90.

1896 and 2096 were the first aside from a few prototypes. 1985ish, as a few were white/black/orange.

Model # 1896 and 2096, which was a Case designed tractor, and later rebraded as a Case IH, (but still a Case tractor) was the first tractor to use the 5.9.(As far as I know)

Case used an 8.3 litre engine that was not a CDC engine. Their 8.3 was a 504 cu.in. , where as the Case/Cummins(CDC) engine was 505 cu.in. As far as I know, the 8.3 was first used in the original Case IH Magnum series tractors.

As for the 3.9, I think it was first used in the Case IH Maxxum series, and only in the 5120 and 5130. The 5140 used the 5.9.

you hit the nail on the head, the CDC engines were a combination of Case engine tech and Cummins, I have a uncle that worked for Case at the time (heck he worked for them for almost 40 years) anyway he kept me informed of the CDC union, I have seen first hand a few of the "test" units back in the day, 96 series,580D,1845 Uni's, I am sure there were others, loaders excavators ect, they did something like a million hors testing the new design, UPS trucks racked up many hours as well
