Continental Z134 engine

Hey folks, I posted this on the restoration forum too, not knowing exactly which one was the best one to post on...

Hi to all and hope all had a happy and safe 4th...
My question is about a connecting rod bearing that spun.
Bought this 1965 MF202 with the Z134 gas engine and knew it had a spun bearing, just didn't know which one. Dropped the pan, and found the #1 connecting rod bearing had spun. Pulled the rod cap to inspect the crank and rod journals, discovered the rod and crank in bad shape. So, I'm going to have to do a major overhaul with a new crank and another rod. all the other rods and main journals look good.

Now the question...
Is there anything specific I should check for to determine why the rod bearing spun?

I have the mauals, and have been reading to try and figure it out, but no luck so far.

I appreciate any and all input.

Thanks,
Roger

The crank and rod might be repairable. Take it and the rods to a reputable engine machine shop and have them reconditioned. Also check the main bearing wear. If they have an uneven wear pattern or don't look just right take the block and have the line bore checked also.

excessive wear clearances cause that, along with low oil pressure. and it usually happens on a rod furthest from the pump,
once a brg is spun that rod is junk. the others should be checked and resized.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Hal, I didn't look that closely for the oil hole in the crank journal, but I will. I'm just wondering if as another poster said, excessive wear allowed the bearing to spin and close off the hole??

One of my co-worker's brother bought a new Ford pickup in the 1960's. He didn't have it very long before it had a knock. The dealer replaced the bearings on one of the rod's. It didn't run very long before it had a knock. His brother and I pulled the pan and we connected a pressure vessel to the oil gallery. That journal didn't have a hole for oil. The dealer installed a new engine. Hal
