Whats she worth. Cut just a smidge prior to bloom. Baled dry, dark green, really leafy, not rained on. Bales weigh about 60-70 pounds. Was offered $6 a bale off the wagon. Havent had pure alfalfa for a while so not sure on value. Field was hit for a burndown to go into beans, was too early so killed everything but the alfalfa. Turning out it may be my most profitable crop this summer, and since I was gonna bean or corn it, didnt take insurance on it for forage, so even bigger saving.

Really depends on your LOCAL market. If I was offered $6.00,I'd load their truck!!!I'm in western Colorado.

You baled dry good hay? In Minnesota? This year?

Wow.

Not in my neighborhood......

I've got 2 round bales that I think were made right so far.

Lot of wet, or rained on, bales both rounds and small squares. Nothing good. Lot of first cutting left to try.

Anyhow, $6 sounds like a good price, but depends on the location and number of horse people around you.

Your local auctioneer should be able to tell you what hay is selling for in your area. Hotovec Auction Center in Hutchinson, MN sells hay every Wednesday at 6pm, (320) 587-3347.

$6.00 a bale sounds pretty good, if those are twine tied 14'' X 16'' bales of well cured hay I doubt they weigh 60-70 pounds, more likely 40-50 so $6.00 per bale is probably around $240.00 to $300.00 per ton. It is hard to make a 60 or 70 pound 2 string twine tied square bale without busting the strings.
