I have a 469 that just loves to eat the rubber bushing on the sickle bar.It started doing it 2-3 yrs ago but now its to the point where I cannot even do 6 acres without repairing. any ideas?

The knife has to be in the center of the stroke when you tighten the bolt, otherwise the bushing will not flex evenly and will wear fast. The knife back, the frame of the haybine needs to be straight, if you hit a big rock or something and bent the metal it will make the knife bind. When I got my 461 a few years ago it was bent up in the middle and I had to use a 24" crescent wrench to straighten it out. Used to go through a bushing every year, which is 30 acres or less, now it is up to 3 years or so and still doing fine.

With the bolt out of the sickle, push and pull on the arm that it bolts to. ANY movement in the arm will tear up the bushings. We had the bottom bearing get loose on ours and do just what yours is doing. Took a few bushings to figure it out.

Our 489 the lip on the bed for the sections was bent making too much drag on the sickle. Would break the bolts and loosen wobble box.

thats about the time i replaced those bearings. thanks all for the replies, ill check that stuff and let yall know.
