Guess I didn't want it anyway

Before the day's over, this could wind up being the most expensive Cockshutt 1555 ever.
I came across it on a local weekly online auction the other day and thought it would be a neat unit to have with such a story behind it.
This thing is a draft dodger. It was supposed to go to Vietnam, but got it's name changed and went to Canada.
It was built as an Oliver 1555 Ricefield to be sent to Vietnam. The order was cancelled and it was brought back in,the tag and decals were changed to Cockshutt but it wasn't re painted. It got sent to Ontario and was sold as a Cockshutt 1555 Wheatland.
Just a half hour in to the auction there had been 17 bids and it's up over $5000. Must be I wasn't the only one wanting one with maybe the best story behind it ever.

Big auctioneer in south central Michigan here charges 10% and most of the time I will not buy from him. I think it is outrageous. He still seems to get the highest prices on things and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

Looks like somebody is willing to pay whatever they have to for that one, premium or not.

3% buyer's premium isn't particularly outrageous, compared to some. Not many auction companies left who don't charge a buyer's premium, and if they have the item you just have to have, they call the tune.

looks more like somebody with more money than brains, 18% buyers premium somebody has access to some really easy money

It's only 18% if the item sells for UNDER $400.

The tractor is already into the 6% range.

Pay by cash or check and they drop that by 3%.

An auctioneer is going to get his money one way or another. If he doesn't charge you buyer's premium, he takes a bigger commission from the seller. Experience has shown that the buyer's premium really hasn't affected prices so they charge it.

If you think you are "punishing" the auctioneer by not bidding, you're kidding yourself. For every one of you who refuses to do business, there are 100 who don't mind, don't know, or don't care. You are not hurting their business one bit.

so either the price got spiked or someone has more money than sense. i wouldn't worry about it. something else will come along. I'm in the same boat, i want to add a farmall and oliver to the herd, but everyone thinks their junk is gold. for some reason, folks have a change of heart from around november to february.
