Minneapolis Moline R backfires

Finished working on the MM R. It has new rings and the valves were ground. New rebuilt magnito with plenty of spark. Carburetor rebuilt and installed. I put new spark plugs in her with the right gap. I even made sure I got the wires in correct firing order, 1 3 4 2. When I hit the starter all the tractor wants to do is turn over and backfire every couple of times. What am I not seeing. Would love for the tractor to start after all this work. Thanks for the help.

I would recheck the timing alignment and make sure you aren't 1 hole off on your 1342, I put a case together once had the same problem and all I had to do was rotate every wire one spot clockwise to get it to run right.

I was told by the mag rebuilder that his mag went clockwise. I would have sworn when I was turning the crank over it went counterclockwise. So which way does it turn on a R? If it does turn the way I thought than the mark on the cap (1) would be the starting point and the wirs from there would go in the opposite direction of what I have done.
