Picked up an older Woods 5140 Mow'N Machine. Runs well but slows going up an incline, if I let back on the drive levers it climbs up slow but will make it, does well on flat surfaces, engine seems strong and does not bog down. One belt runs both pumps and the machine pulls evenly, the belt looks old and the inner pulley surfaces that contacts the belt looks shiny - glazed on the pumps and engine. I have a new belt on order but can I lightly scuff the pulleys to remove the glaze? Also, should I replace the spring on the belt tensioner, seems like I can slack the belt fairly easy by hand when stopped but not sure how tight it should be? Hydro fluid was replaced and filters cleaned but had no effect. I read Grasshopper had and issue with the tensioner spring but not sure if this mower was made by them or not.
