Decisions...decisions.......

Going to a small local tractor ride at Peterson, Ia. sat morning. (PATOOT Peterson's annual trip on old tractors) Do I take my Farmall "H" that I just did transmission work on? ....Or do I take my '48 John Deere "A" that has the brackets for my canopy top on it? I'll know by noon on Sat.

As loyal to green as I am, I'd go with the H so you can throttle back and have a quieter ride. Of course there's that big climb going out of town that'll blow the carbon out of her.

depends some on what the road captain/route Marshall has said the road speed will be- 10 mph will let the JD keep up barely- but a 15 mph road section can be handled by H with road gear while JD will be blocking the road and running wide open. Some towns and county roads occasionally get annoyed with the 10mph routing- couple places have the 15 mph as a minimum speed as a administrative rule- can't do 15mph then not allowed on road for more than 1/2 mile or one block without individual permits. Usually a single parade permit will let everybody go 10 mph on the selected road, street- but might need a header and trailer vehicle with turn signals required if long parade, couple runs in Indiana and Ohio last couple years had this requirement, seems they had had a minor car crash with parade tractors year or so before. Mixed brand rides with old JDs will often be the 10 mph route will sometimes a second route has the 15mph speed and the later series with occasionally have a 20 mph route for the 4010s, 4020s 43nn and 44nn to go along with the IHC number series up. Check you road captain.

That A would have the 2 stick tranny and a fast high speed as well as fast low speed. low in Deere would be equal to second in Farmall 3rd in Deere equal to 4th in Farmall and 4th nothing in Farmall to equal unless you have the 9 speed option and same way with 5th in Deere. And 6th in Deere close to 5th in Farmall. The single stick newer A's are slower.

The only decision that needs to be made is to buy or make an extra set of brackets for the H! Than both tractors can use the canopy top! Armand

Take the H so you dont need to change gears going up hills unless you can slow down enough to take a run with the JD.

I have most colors here.
Have 'tractor people' around?, and I will use/play/show a Ford or Farmall.
'Non-tractor people' around? The JD B always gets fired up for the
day.
Pretty much everyone enjoys the sight-sound of the JD best.
