Having terrible time with fleas on our blonde long haired Dachshund. We have used just about every flea killer on the market and he still has fleas. Does anybody know of something else to try? Still giving baths with flea shampoo and the monthly high dollar flea killer treatments are not doing their job. If I was being attacked like the dog is being attacked, I couldn"t be working on my 8n in my open air garage. Thx for any suggestions. Located just south of Atlanta, Ga.

Put Garlic Powder in his food. After a few days he won't have any more fleas. The fleas hate the smell (in the dogs sweat) and taste of the Garlic. Used to use it all the time with my dogs when we had a flea problem - it works.

Nexgaurd. Both my Dachsy and beagle had pretty bad fleas. Tried everything, and I mean everything from home brews to high dollar vet only stuff. Wife gets it at vet, but its cheaper than Frontline, and it works!! Within days, not one single flea was to be found on either of my dogs/

Fleas are living in the lawn and shrubbery around the house. I spray my lawn with Malathion and problem is soon gone

Go to the vet and get some Revolution. It protects against fleas, ticks, heartworms, and a plethora of other things. It is not a poison but works great.

you need to also rid his bed/living area of them too. Get Diatomaceous Earth (food grade) and dust everything. Google it, and you can learn more. it works great.

nitenpyram. You can give it every day. I get it from littlecitydogs.com. Its not expensive. Starts killing fleas on the dog in about 30 minutes. It only lasts 24 hrs. You can give it to cats, too.

Dogs at the farm had ticks really bad this year and then the fleas got started. Tried Frontline, but it was ineffective. Tried Adantix II and it has worked. No ticks, but still seeing some fleas.

Treat their bedding and yard. Vacuum rugs and furniture to suck up eggs and larva.

Best yard treatment is beneficial nematodes. Very effective, but once you get them started you can't use any pesticides or you will kill the nematodes. You put them out once and don't have to treat next year or the next, etc.

Last year my dog in Dallas was covered with fleas. Put out the nematodes and haven't seen a flea this year.

Everything I read says to keep garlic and onions out of a dogs stomach.

You may want to check that practice with your veterinarian.

Dogs do not sweat! That is why they pant. They get rid of the heat through their lungs. In real hot weather I bring dog in AC house or have a horse tank full of cool water for them to get into.

I live out in the middle of nowhere and my property is surrounded by cow pasture. I put out "tick granules" all over my yard about once a month. That is what I call them, can't think of the official name, but I buy them at Wally world for around $7.00 for a small bag. I also spread them in my dog pens and around my dog pens and I never have to actually spray my dogs, they stay tick and flea free.
If you get fleas in the house, turn a night light on, on your lowest socket. Under the night light, put a bowl of water. You might want to add a small amount of dish detergent to the water so the fleas are sure to die and not get back out. At night the fleas are attracted to the night lite and jump toward the light and land in the water. IF you have fleas in the house, you'll be surprised at how well this will catch them. Just make sure the night lite is the only light on in the room.

We had bad problem last year when a barn cat got in the house while we were on vacation. the thing that worked real well for us on the dogs was "Capstar". It's a pill that seems pretty benign to the dogs, but the fleas start dying and dropping off the dog within a bout a half hour. Of course you still have to make sure to eradicate them everywhere or the dogs will just get infested, but for the dogs themselves: Capstar.

I can tell you this for certain. Frontline will work but you need to make sure you are buying the real thing.
Last year my wife was buying frontline off ebay or somewhere because it was way cheaper than the vet. We noticed the dogs being eaten alive by fleas even though we kept putting it on regularly. I was spraying the yard, their dog boxes, baths in flea shampoo, and everything else we could think of. Finally my wife called the people that make Frontline. They wanted her to give them the Lot Number on the boxes she had bought. Sure enough they were counterfeit. The Frontline people said they were having a lot of problems with it. The boxes looked identical and everything.
After getting the correct Frontline, the fleas went away and have not been back yet. Just sayin'
