Old Massey combine engine rebuild costs?

I"d appreciate some input as to costs to rebuild a Chrysler 6 cylinder engine from a 1949 Massey Harris 21A combine. Probably not an easy thing to cost out, but just ballpark estimates are OK.

What would the parts cost be min to max?

What would be the labor cost min to max?

The engine is obviously stuck and hasn"t been run in 30+ years.

Thanks

Ron W.

If it's at all badly stuck and rusted, and some cylinders need to be sleeved, parts and labor for a complete OH could EASILY be DOUBLE that $1200.

It costs AT LEAST that much to go through a TIRED 350 Chevy!

Ron I do not know where you are located but I have two industrial Chrysler engines that ran great when we quit using them three years ago.
Scrap price. Located in Tenn

That's probably the 251 Industrial engine. I had a Massey 82 with a worn out 251 and instead of overhaul it I put a flathead out of a Dodge pickup in it. I think the pickup engine was a 230 but I might be wrong on that. The pickup engine didn't have as much power as the worn out 251 and I was sorely disappointed.

the old massey 82 had a 235, so I am presuming this one is that or less cid. but don't matter. I have seen the brother inlaw rebuild one of those and it was over 2000.00 for the guy. but it was pretty much junk at the start. it was rebored, new pretty much everything went into it.
a person does not know till it is all disassembled and measured. say for instance rings, brgs. and a valve job and gaskets can still add up to 600.00-800.00. parts add up fast.

What a great old combine. Dad bought one in the early 60"s. It was rust colored and I painted it. The next year the neighbor hired Dad to combine his wheat, the very next year the neighbor had one too.

The Massey I had did indeed have a 251, but it was bought well used so it could have had a transplant before my time with it.

The 21-A Massey should have the 218 cubic inch Chrysler 6 engine..If all it needs is rings, gaskets, valve grind, tune up,carb rebuild, etc you might get by for under $1,000...

If it needs bored with new pistons,if the crank needs turned with new bearings, needs new valves and seats, etc it could easily go well over $2,000..

A 230 will bolt right in but a 251 wont as its 2" longer..I got lucky and found a dandy 230 engine for $150 for my 1941 Massey 101 Super tractor which originally had a 218..
