the farm cat's not helping

ok , so i relented and let the wife have one of the farm cats for a house cat , got it as a kitten , and its been inside ever since, last night i got up in the middle fo the nite to get some water to drink, there is this cat up against the sliding glass door, on the other side is the biggest skunk ive seen yet i mean this critter is as big as a dog, as soon as i hit the lite that tail vent vertical, fortunatly the thing didnt fire, so whats up with cats and skunks? i thought that was a dog thing

When you have only so much ammo you don't fire at every little thing. I have several skunks that come to visit daily. They come right between the cats on the back porch and eat the cat food. The cats seem to have a respect for the Polecats. The skunk isn't going to spray unless they are startled or cornered. I can open the door and tell the skunk to get out of here and they don't spray. Having the tail up is just to be prepared in case they need to fire.

If you look closely at the skunk's head you will see that it is closer in size to a squirel than a cat. There is a lot of coat and not a great sized body. They tend to stomp their feet when agitated. They can also very rapidly swing around and point that gun at you.

One tried that with our big tomcat last summer and it nearly went the other way. If he hadn't fired all barrels at the cat I think it would have been all over for him. Cat didn't care that he stunk the rest of the summer. We all ran every time we saw the poor thing coming.

A fella that I work with, Hank, smokes and apparently goes outside to smoke at his home. So, one night he went outside to smoke and his daughter and her boyfriend or husband quietly locked him out and then unleashed a fake skunk on him. Hank lost it. He even used a real bad word too.
