Stump Puller ??

I saw this on CraigsList. How do you use it to pull stumps?

Tail-holt it to the biggest stump you have, then wheel it out to each stump you want to pull, and your team pulls the cable with big mechanical advantage to pull out the smaller stump. When you get done, you've just got one big stump to char pit.

Mike Did it not have a long toung in the slots there on top and the team walked in circle around the winch? Sure a real piece of history there for sure.

WOW. I never saw one like that. Years ago there was one on Dad's place. It looked like the one at the museum in Cedar Springs. I'm not sure that it isn't it, it came up missing.

I think you're right- I think there were more than one type, and the one shown did indeed use a pole. There were others with multi-gang pulleys, but I don't see them on that one.
