Welding galvanized metal

Be careful breathing the fumes because they are dangerous. Drink a BIG glass of milk when you're done to help flush it out of your system, at least that is the advice from a friend of mine who has been welding it for 20 years.

Yes you can weld weld it. Grind to clean metal and keep your face out of the welding fumes! I"ve used a box fan to blow the fumes clear.

Many years ago my brother and I arc brazed a LOT of galvanized duct piping. The welder instructor told us to drink a LOT of milk while doing the brazing. We did and we had no ill effects from it. My younger brother is in his high 70's and I'm older than that, so I guess it works to drink milk and it sure didn't hurt anything.

Some alternatives to welding a water tank could be:
Aquarium sealer (non-toxic, looks like a clear silicon caulk) $5 and
3M Boat Sealer $15 (white, very sticky for at least a week, 12 ounce tube?).

I've used both. They both stay flexible and both seal very well under water. For human consumption, I'd try the aquarium sealer first. For livestock, I'd use the 3M Boat Sealer. I have purchased both off-the shelf at Walmart. You could also check if they are available on-line from Walmart, Amazon, any hardware store, etc.

i use a fan to blow the fumes away when i"m welding galvanized metal they make a spray can of stuff that will regalvaniz the metal

Another vote on the milk. Dad always told us to drink the big glass of it when welding on water pipes etc. It worked for me all these years. Probably get cancer from it or something. Probably not good for you. Best to gring it all off if possible and ventilate well.
