IH 656 won't keep running

I have a IH 656 gas tractor that starts sputters then quits after a little while. The problem started when I got some bad fuel in it. The fuel is now clean and I have put in a inline filter. I have good gas flow to the carb and carb is cleaned. Still can"t get it to stay running. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I've got a 284 that was doing that. After it was all said and done, turned out to be the coil.

you might want to ditch the in line filter with a gravity flow system that might be too much flow resistance the sediment bowl should catch the debris

If that has the electric solenoid on the carburetor, that might be a place to check as well. Had one tractor years ago that stalled when the customer drove it home. Turned out to be the solenoid.

Found a plastic fuel jug cap floating in the tank on my Case DC. Ran great above half tank. Below half tank it would starve out when the cap got pulled down to the outlet. Got anything floating in the tank?

All good advice so far. One thing that was not mentioned is the gas cap. Are the vent holes open in the cap?

Mine did that, and I found out the points were fried, along with the coil.

Make sure the gas is on half the time thats the problem
