Farmhand with no hands - or legs

Those that have so much more in this world, do so much less. He's more than an inspiration, we should all be so lucky to have his motivation, the smile alone speaks miles. I'll bet he never complains, so many with so much more do.

The older I get, the more I realize how much there is to be thankful for, we should all be so grateful for people like this man, his actions speak louder than any words could ever have.

A friend of mine lost both his arms and half his face in a corn picker when he was in his 20's.

On top of his new extreme physical handicap, he had to endure what I think must be at least as bad, if not worse - the psychological side of his injuries, especially from the horrible disfigurement.

His face can be pretty hard to look at when you first meet him. He can be hard to understand when he speaks, and he's got two mechanical hooks for arms/hands.

He went from a strong active young man just out of the army, to what some would understandably call a monster.

But my friend is a good man to his core. He's a lot older than me, he married a true angel, and has a son my age that's become a good fishing buddy.

He has difficult, bitter moments of regret and sorrow, but he always picks himself back up. He has lived a happy and complete life. He ran a wrought iron business out of his shop for decades. He still does it, but is slowing down now.

I could go on about how amazing he is in what he can do with his hooks in his shop, but I think the truly amazing thing to take a way from any person like my friend, or the guy in this video is this:

You can take so much away from a person and still not reduce their value - that comes from within.

That's what I find so inspirational. We all have it in us, and it's under our control. Nobody can take it away.

Truly an amazing young man. I know after watching that I had a big smile, but did make me feel like an under-achiever.

Billy, I know you were touched by the video, by your words and the fact that's the shortest post I've seen by you. LOL

True on both counts, my only excuse for the longer posts, I enjoy the site, get carried away a little, LOL! when I have spare time of course, its raining or work is slow, also can type pretty quick.

This man (in the video) does a lot at a deficit, its humbling, or to me it is.

I agree, he certainly makes me feel like a under-achiever. I think his zest for life and will to overcome anything may be the strongest I have ever seen. I loved the way he delivered his Grandmothers line about him being born with no arms or legs, "his father's never finished anything"

As a carpenter and builder we do a lot of work for a local handycap community. These people have physical and mental hanycaps, some born with them and some due to accidents later in life. Being around the people and getting to know some of them makes you really appriecate the things most take for granted. I often think; "there for the grace of god go I". One of the residents I know well used to work construction and suffered a head injury in an accident so it really hits home.
