Well, been on the place for 8 yrs., the house moved in 11 yrs. ago. Built a pole barn for my stuff when I moved, had contractor put water line to barn 8 ft. deep (I measured). the yard hyd quit working in Feb. Tried it every couple days since grass is green, no water. WALLA, Monday morning I have water. Started to get worried, nephew in water softener business said a lot of water is still froze. NC Minn/Bemidji area, It did get cold !!!

Your post gave me HOPE that two frozen underground lines that affect me here in north central ND MIGHT have thawed out so I went and checked on both of them.

NOT so much luck here, yet!

(quoted from post at 19:45:18 06/12/14) Heard on the news the other night, last of the ice in Lake Superior is finally gone.

Then they lied. Can still see some ice bergs floating around out there depending on which way the wind is blowing.

About 6-8 years ago my stepson worked on a project in upstate NY near St. Lawrence river, they had to dig across a road and frost was down 8 feet.

Up here int he St Lawrence Valley the frost is actually worse then it is in the mountains. IN the mtns you usually get a lot more snow cover. Up here the wind can clear every bit of snow off the ground. A prolonged cold spell in an "open winter" can drive the frost down 8 feet or more easily.

All I can say is keep the faith, and hope the pipe hasn't cracked. My contractor won't dig unless there it evidence of a rupture, he dug up three that were froze but not broke, busier than hell. Dan

(quoted from post at 08:16:40 06/13/14) That area between Rt. 11 and the Seaway is more like the Siberian tundra, flat.

Some of it, yes. But you have to remember there's nothing slowing the wind off Lake Ontario until you hit the Adirondacks or Tug Hill Plateau.
