This is for anyone who has ever operated or worked behind a hay baler.

Have you ever noticed...... there may not be a cloud in the sky until you start baling hay.

I had one of those days today. Attempting to bale some wheat and oat straw. baled about 175 bales had a rear tractor tire go to leaking. Carried it to the shop (after hours), left it and deceided to use truck to get straw up. had about 150 bales up and deceided I better get trailers under shelter. Backed second trailer under sheltet and before I could get out of truck it started raining. I am thankful I got as much up as I did but boy it would have been nice to get it all up.

I must ask everyone to forgive my grammer. I must have been having a brain fart when I typed the first post.

Sailors at sea can tell that they are approaching an island way before they can see it without checking their Loran, by the clouds above it. The clouds come from the respiration of the vegetation. So as you are driving along a road and see isolated clouds in an otherwise cloudless sky, you can tell where a farmer is trying to dry some hay. (tongue in cheek)

I don't even know your grammer...or your gramper either for that matter. (I had to make a funny, hope you don't mind)

That reminds of a story an ex-farmer told me many years ago. They had sold some straw 'Off The field' and they had just finished loading a great big truck with bales and The Farmer's wife called them all into the house for a much welcomed cup of tea and some cake, so they all went into the farmhouse, leaving the truck in the field. Of course, you know what happens, 1 cup of tea becomes 2 cups of tea and they all got chatting, telling stories and jokes. Meanwhile nobody noticed that out there the sky was sort of getting a bit dark..... Suddenly there was an almighty bang and flash followed by what he described as one of the most torrential downpours he had ever seen in his whole life. When it eventually did stop there was the truck stood in a large puddle, when he tried to move it it just stood there scratching. Hitching up a tractor made no difference...she was firmly stuck. The only way they could pull it out was to unload every last bale off of it again!

My cousin has a farm up the road, everyone in the area knows if he cuts hay it will rain!

Haven't had any rain here the last few weeks, wanted it to rain after I got my corn and soybeans in the ground a few weeks ago and no rain!! I get my haybine hooked up and now its supposed to rain until next Thursday!!
