Use you position lever and do not push it all the way down into response control. just push it down to the lower position should suffice.

Here is what I found. I have a MF with the same problem. I finally just let it all the way down, and use the leveling boxes for setting the height. I only raise it for turning. I have a John Deere I can set the height with the lift lever it stays where I set it. Doesn't move a bit. I think the MF have a valve internally that needs replacing. Maybe someone smarter than my self can add a little to this. Stan
 
I'll second what spudm said. That's the shorter of the two levers and it sounds like you have it raised to engage. Lower it all the way.
