OT. Raccoons

I have a bad raccoon problem and want to do the mix of fly killer and coke Does it matter what brand of fly killer I use?

Golden Malerin is the bait of choice. Very effective with a sugary drink - cola, Dr Pepper, etc.

Also, Live Traps are effective in Coons, they will go right in a Live trap.
Dry cat food or a marshmallow works.
I bolt an empty Steel cat food can to the triggering plate, so they must go IN to get the food. They will reach thru the cage wires and steal the food, if you just toss it in the trap.

I know, there could be 50 around and the poison will get them (usually).

Up at my folks farm the squirrels were REALY getting out of hand. The ^(^&^(%$!!!!! were eating the shop building! I used peanut butter and {ta ta taaaaa} local feed store has rat poison in a green bag. Like around $20.oo for the big plastic bag. They are big green nuggets like dog food. Sorry forget the name. Not a SINGLE squirel on the whole farm. I mean even the gun club guys who rent hunting rights have said they see no squirrels anymore. he,he,he. AH the wonders of modern science. This may be good for the raccoons too? Jeffcat

Ya,I guess I have blood on my hands right now. The wife live traps them and shoots them. I just had to tell her that she had another one. I think this one was the mother.
She uses marshmallows, cat food and peanut butter. She had one yesterday too. I guess I've had too many of them as pets over the years. I was ready to take this one for a ride and let it go,but with little ones around,I don't know if I could have taken her far enough if I drove all day.

We at one time had a problem with them. We found a guy that trapped them and sold the pelts. The first year he got 20 Raccoons.

I've caught them in live traps with no bait -- just an empty cage. Raccoons, possums, and rabbits will all wander right in! Had just as much luck as I used to with bait (though for possums, I always hit paydirt if I baited the cage with some fried chicken skin).

If I use a live trap for coons I use a bit of a honey bun for bait. My cats do not like it and the coons do.
