John Deere 2010 hydraulics wont work

hi everyone. a few weeks back i posted a message
about my john deere 2010 and how i lost my ability
to raise the 3 point arms. we recently got it
down of the jack stands and now come to find out
we lost our power steering too. There is no
hydraulic pressure anywhere. As i said we did
clean the suction screen and it does allow oil to
pass through it. it also was in the garage all
winter because we restored it but everything has
been filled with new fresh oil. i don"t think the
pump can just go bad sitting in a garage all
winter , but its not making any pressure. we can
hear it spinning down there and took the seat off
to look in at the rock shaft assembly and took out
a plug to test pressure. we put oil down it to
try to help it get a prime and it will
occasionally let out some air bubbles. So what im
getting at is we have no pressure. I don"t know
if we have to prime it somehow after sitting all
winter. If someone knows how to fix this or has
any other advice it would be greatly appreciated
because we don"t know what else we can do. thanks
so much. :)

(quoted from post at 11:03:59 06/07/14) Yes the lever on the left is pulled up all the way. It is always up because a spring is pulling it.

Is that a factory spring or an added field installed invention? If not designed for it.Holding shifter forks against a collar/gear to keep a work system engaged. That's a short lived temporary limp home mode. Extended operation will wear out the shifter etc.

You need to call JD and complain as 2010 came from factory with a spring on hyd pump engagement handle.

Your's was (or is) a common problem with 2010 wheel tractors using belly-mounted hydraulic pumps. We did not see a lot of them at our Deere dealership. But those we did had many issues similar to your's. Also a few that worked great when parked and then when started again - nothing. Was a valve inside the pump as I recall but the 2010 part of my brain is getting rusty. I know that 30 years ago - replacement pumps for 2010s with power steering were extremely expensive and hard to find.

Just to clarify, are you "hearing it spinning" down low, up front, just behind the clutch, or in the back end, which you've taken the cover off of?

NOT sure what plug you took out to check pressure, but it's an open-center system and you would not expect to see pressure, just flow, unless it's seeing loaded by a hydraulic function.

Does the PTO function... the PTO is driven by the same splines on the clutch pressure plate that drive the hydraulic pump.

If you ARE hearing noise up front, it could be those splines are sheared or something else has failed in that PTO/pump drive area.

A broken spring in the priority valve will create a loss of pressure in the system. You might want to check it.

The spinning is coming from the back where we took the plate off. The plug we took out was the one to the far left.

Jake the hydraulic pump on your JD 2010 is in the belly not the rear end. Taking a plug out if the pressure side should have flow but not much pressure.

1)I would make darn sure you have the hydraulic pump engage level in the correct position.

2) Then remove the cover behind the clutch and check the priority valve on the side of the hydraulic pump. I have had them stick open when the tractors set for a long time.

Some general information.

The hydraulic pump can be removed out the bottom without splitting the tractor. I found it is was just as fast to split the tractor as the steel hydraulic lines are just about impossible to work with through the bottom cover hole.

The hydraulic system on the JD 2010 was marginal at the best and PIA to work on. That coupled with the fact that the engine sleeve deck plate was a poor designed, made the JD 2010 the poorest JD tractor built to date.

I find it hilarious that guys are collecting them. They where a total nightmare when they where on the farms around here. When they where not ten years old, parts and guys with the knowledge to work on them, was already an issue. So now forty years later guys are getting re-educated on the troubles/issues with a JD 2010.

I wish you luck and apologize for laughing at your troubles but I have been there and done that on those JD LEMONS. I owned one and lost my butt on the whole deal.

At the last JD dealer I worked at we just about refused to work on them. Repairs where high priced due to parts not being available and poor design making them time consuming to work on.

I agree. The 2010 wheel tractors - especially those with power steering were nightmares. In the 80s - if someone called our shop and had one - the problem was just about always hydraulics.

I've changed many of those belly pumps and never split one to do it. Can't say it was fun though.

Priority valve is on the front of the transmission cover case. Look in the round hole on the rt side of the bell housing, behind the oil line going up to the power steering box their is a small cover with 2 bolts holding it on, valve is behind it. Pay attention to the way the valve is pointed, it needs to go back in the same way. Early covers have a round dome as this one does later ones are flat. The hdy pump will drop out the bottom if you know the secret of how to do it, I can take it out in less than 20 minutes, going back in is a little longer. No need to split the tractor.. Holler if you need more.
