hyd motor question

You could hook them up but they would not perform well. Might work if both loads were identical but you are limited to the available power. Pressure and GPM are like volts and amps.

Yes. Ever see an old fertilizer tender with one auger laying along the bottom, and another vertical auger? The motor on the horizontal auger was sized to run a little slower than the other one, to make up for the difference in capacity.

Most likely the pressure needed to run the
second one will blow the shaft seal out of the
first one. They are designed to run with open
return to tank. Even if reversible the checks
in the motor will permit open return to tank.

If they are hooked in series would mean that what
oil goes thru one would have to go thru the other.
So if they are to run two different speeds or
loads or if they're two different size motors I
wouldn't attempt it.

If you hooked them in parallel like it's been
suggested you could put a flow control valve on
each one to adjust your speed according to it's
load.
Make sure you have a pressure relief valve in the
pressure side of the system so all unused oil can
return to the tank.

The equipment I work on has up to 3 motors in series, designed that way. It works better if the motor has a case drain.

I had a Lorenz and a Gehl grinder mixer, both ran two augers while unloading. I"d have to check the plumbing to determine how they"re set up.

The canvas drives on most any brand of windrower
draper header are an example of this being done.
Only certain types of motors, such as gerotor motors
with high pressure shaft seals, are capable of this,
though. Obviously the first motor in the series
will have a very high backpressure against it and it
needs to be specifically rated by the manufacturer
to tolerate this.

You can do that if one , or both motors have a
provision for a "Case Drain", or a "Case Drain
Plug', which is a port, where you have a line back to tank, to relieve pressure on the shaft seal. (oil which gets by the outboard bearing, to lube that bearing, needs a port to relieve "Case Pressure", or it builds up pressure and "Pops"
the seal). I believe,(but am not positive), that a
Char-Lynn 2000 series motor, and larger models,
have a case drain provision.

(quoted from post at 05:01:44 06/08/14) Vermeer twin v rakes do and no they don't have a case drain

Lots of skidsteers have the case drain between the 2 other hydro ports when using certain equipment calling for case drain connection.
