anybody dealing with this invasive weed? looks like it is heading north, already have it near us in n cent illinois. kind of a cross between water hemp and pig weed. after 4 inches high, roundup wont burn it down. supposed to take over a field quickly. what kind of preventative/chemical is anybody using on it?

Although roundup might control some populations, most of them are now resistant. Typically if you miss with roundup, its already well past the easy to control stage (~3 inches or one or two days growth in good conditions) once you realize the roundup failed.

What crop? If soybeans Envive preplant followed by Flexstar Gt works well.

A rule of thumb on this weed with roundup...If it is as big a your finger from tip to second knuckle roundup will not kill it!
 
we do corn and soybeans. i havent seen it here yet, but everybody is talking about it. from what i hear, if it get in and spreads, it can ruin a whole field. am looking for somebody with first hand experience and how they are dealing with it. looks like the herbicide input costs will triple to prevent it.
 
I am in South Carolina. We have had it for several years. The key to control is to prevent it from getting started. One plant can produce 500,000 seed. Yes that is correct. Sometimes it is tranfered by birds.
I do a rotation of soybeans, corn(using atrazine), grazing cows and leasing out for tobacco. I do not know what is used on the tobacco. We have not eliminated it in my fields but we are working on it. You must eliminate it anywhere you see it. If it is on a ditchbank you must hand pull or spray.
