I have a i.h. 444 gas tractor that will not put a charge back to the battery to charge or run tractor without the battery hooked up.it has a new alternator that is putting out good as well as a new voltage regulator.Any help would be appreciated.

You have read the voltage across the battery terminal with the tractor running and got at least 13.5 volts?

Assuming this is a 10SI Delco alternator, with the engine off, battery connected, ignition on, using a test light, on back of the alternator, should have full battery power to the big red terminal and the #2 plug connection, and a dim light on the #1 plug terminal.

Sounds like maybe you've lost connection from the output terminal (big red) to the battery. Loss of connection to any terminal will cause the battery not to charge.

Also be sure the belt is tight and in good condition. Should not be able to turn the alt fan by hand.

Quit trying to run it with the battery not hooked up. That can let the smoke out & it never will work right.

Will the battery accept a charge from a battery charger? If it does then look for a bad wire or poor connection.

Original alternator will be a 10DN with an external voltage regulator near the clutch pedal.

You can use the above diagram for trouble shooting. With the key switch on you should have power at regulator terminals F, 3, and 4 as well as R at the alternator.
