John Deere 60 DLTX81 Carb. problems

Have a JD60 DLTX81 carb.

Finally got tractor to start. Did a basic Carb. kit. Set both needles to 2 rotations. Any way, tractor started. Have not set timing exactly and do adjustments to the Carb.

After first start, ran ok, seemed rich. When I shut it down, some fuel leaked out the front of the Carb. (Curently do not have "air elbow" attached on front of Carb.) So I can do initial adjustments and etc.)

Does anybody have any ideas why this might have happened ?

Does the little "U" shaped clip for the flow control into the fuel bowl (part of the float valve) go so it holds it open or whatever ?

Any ideas ? Neal

Sounds like it is running rich, especially if fuel
ran out on shut down.

Could be the float is set too high. That will
cause the dripping fuel and running rich. Could
also be trash in the needle and seat. Before
taking everything back apart, try shutting off the
fuel valve and run the engine until it empties the
carb. Then turn the fuel on, sometimes if there
was something in the needle/seat it will flush it
out.

If it still runs rich, recheck the float level,
check everything about the float, needle, seat,
and hinge assembly. Check the float for damage, as
in bent or fuel inside the float chamber.

The u shaped clip, I think what your asking about
is the tiny wire clip that hooks around the needle
and hooks over the tab on the float. It should not
hold the needle open or closed. It's purpose is to
pull a stuck needle open when the float drops.
Sometimes if a carb is left sitting for a while
with fuel in the bowl, the needle will stick
inside the seat and not allow the bowl to fill
with fuel.

That worked, thanks for the advice. I had the clip in the wrong place. The restore took a long time, and forget which way it was suppose to go back in. Thanks.

On those little needle clips. I had a carb. builder tell me to toss them in the trash !
Said they seem to of caused more problems then they solved ?
I have since left many off and had no problems. so who knows ????
