Tractor makes transmission noise when balinghay.

We have a John Deere 3020. When we small square bale hay, the tractor transmission makes a short whining noise just when the baler plunger packs the hay. It sounds like a bearing noise. Is this normal? Should we be concerned? It just does it on that compression stroke, as it packs the bale. Just a short sound. Thanks.

Years ago we baled hay with a JD 14T baler. We used a Farmall M and at times a John Deere A and both of them made noise like that when baling hay.

I have a 3020 that I use with a 24 t baler makes that noise too, baled about 8000 bales in the last 3 years no problems it must be normal

(quoted from post at 19:49:09 05/30/14) Let's face it,

Baling hay into small square bales is the thing that isn't normal. :>)

AW Allan with a bale accumulator & sq bale grapple for FEL sq bales are like a "nice walk in the park"!!!!!

Thanks for the answers. Next question... Same tractor, 3020 John Deere. Where we connect the hydraulic hoses. We have adapters to go from John Deere to Generic. Last year we had no problem, snapping the adapters into the hydraulic ports. But now, we can not get the adapters in. We couldn't drive them in with a hammer. Moved the hyd levers back and forth, tractor running, tractor not running. Makes no difference. What's up with that?
