Boiling out the water jacket in a motor

I realize that a diluted solution of muratic would wreak havock on o-rings in piston sleeves and associated parts in the water pump, but I have to ask the dumb question.as anyone tried this application Pouring a solution of muratic acid in the motors water jacket ,drive it around s bit ,and drain then flush. The idea is to dissolve the crap that has plugged the small cavity areas within the water jacket. Ok ,now you can start laughing. Your thoughts. Chuck

Dad used what he called Sal-soda,it cleaned the rust, also ate the freeze plugs one year later. I really would not want to clean it too much without a tear down, you are begging for O-rings(sleeves) and radiator leaks. Flush it good with water and add anti freeze.

We tried that on a Massey Harris 50that was plugged almost solid with calcium etc..
We took off the radiator, it was plugged solid, took 2 pieces of hose , took out the thermostat turned the hoses up higher than the engine, pored in 50/50 muriatic acid water, over a period of months it puked out nasty green looking foam, when it quit foaming flushed water, then water/baking soda.
Had to get a new radiator, but no ill effects
on the cooling system, this is still a light working tractor, no water in the oil, or oil in water, this was 18 yrs. ago. Jim

I can see all sorts of reasons NOT to use muriatic acid to remove some lime deposits, but worrying that it will attack rubber "O" rings would be at the bottom of my worry list.

How about CLR, or a similar de-limer?

I'll add a check to the vinegar column. I filled the entire cooling system with it and worked it for a while, drained and rinsed with water, then ran it with water for a while, then one more drain and refill with water, then finally refilled with antifreeze. Cleaned it our pretty good.

I don't know where you get it anymore, but there used to be a stronger vinegar than you get at the grocery. I think the percentage is higher or something. That might work.

You can always dilute the acid if you think it's too strong.

Even after your and others experience. There will still be people here that won"t understand why cooling systems should only be filled with distilled water and a quality antifreeze .
