Plow Day Pictures!!

Well, we had our local plow day this past weekend, mom took a bunch of pictures, and here are a few of them! The 1949 Farmall C with JD Plow, and the 1954 John Deere 40T with the restored Case Centennial plow are mine...

One of the pictures shows all THREE of mine lined up and ready to roll, but for some reason the Super C just didn't have enough power to pull a 2 x 14 plow?? Dad thinks that the governor isn't adjusted right, he said that it didn't rev up nearly as much as the C did?? Bryce

2-14s is too much for a Super C anyday, anywhere. Let alone trying to bust sod!

No, I don't think so, and there is the proof!! In the last picture my Farmall C is pulling a 2 x 14 plow, John Deere. It pulls it just fine in 1st gear, and will ALMOST do it in 2nd gear. It doesn't have any fluid in the tires, just 2 sets of weight. It got stuck one time that day, however it was in a wet spot and nearly everyone else got stuck there as well....

Later that day a friend of mine put a 12 foot spike harrow on behind my Super C, and it could barely pull it in 3rd gear, so I think that something isn't right... I have never really worked that tractor very hard, and have only had it a few months.. I think that we are probably going to have to pull the engine out of it and do a mini rebuild.... Bryce

I respectfully disagree.

My SC will pull a 2-14" C20 fast hitch plow and a IH 2-14" #8 in MY
previously worked ground with ease. Busting old ground is a no go
with #8 but C20 will do an ugly job.

It takes the SH to bust new ground with ease.

2x14 is too much for a C. the C has same size motor as an A. Dad had new A in 1940 pulled 2x12 in 2nd gear farmed 70 acres. In 1947 got a new H pulled 2x14 in 3rd gear. The A and C have 113cu. motor, H has 152cu. motor. C can"t hold a candle to an H!!! Plus 1st. gear is way too slow to pull a plow, just can"t do a good job

Well, believe what you will! For ME the proof is in two of the above pictures.... My 1949 Farmall C CAN and WILL pull a 2 x 14 plow. YES it is in 1st gear, YES it is slower than and H, and YES it will get the job done.

The engine in that C is BRAND NEW, we went through it, and it has new everything, so it is very strong. As any true Farmall collector will tell you, granted Farmall C's only have about 19 horse, but I'll be damned if ALL 19 of those horses aren't pullin!

I personally think that my tractor/plow setup is one of the best in our local club. It works VERY well, and leaves VERY nice, clean furrows. I am proud of it, and that is what counts!

You know, it might also be our soil, because a neighbor used to have a Farmall B, and he would pull a 2 x 14 trailer plow through virgin ground like nothing... Bryce
